Wow it has been quite a while. Life has been INSANE! Looking for a new apartment,working like crazy and tons of other fun stuff going on over here. But thanks be to God I got home to Michigan this week! It was some what of a busy trip but there was time for fun and relaxation, family time and time with friends.
The top two priorites on this trip home were my friend Julia's wedding and dress fittings and such for my Best Friends wedding next July!

She found the most beautiful dress, of course I can give only this tiny little sneak peak with her and her vail on. She is going to be a BEAUTIFUL bride! I cant wait til the day arrives.

We also took some time to go shopping for our bridesmaids dresses. Only two of us could go so we boiled it down to these two dresses for the rest of the girls. So all the girls will choose either one of these dresses. Of course this is not the actual colors but what do ya think?

We had a blast just chatting,laughing and catching up. These girls and I have been friends for such a long time and it is always sooo good to just hang out with them and share time!
Lately I am really finding out how much of a true and wonderful blessing it is to have good, close friends that are just a hop, skip and a jump away! My wonderful best friend and I live five hours away from each other so you can only imagine just how often we get to see each other with work, grad school and a host of other projects going on with us. But thankfully God has given me so many sweet friends here in Chicago. I love these people so much! Over the past few months we have just been growing with each other,teaching each other,pushing each other, encouraging each other and being present and supportive in each other's lives!

I just wanted to share something that was said by the sweet Alyson Stoner recently in the days leading up to Valentines day:
I'm preparing my heart for Feb. 14th, and not in the way you may suspect. I don't have a boyfriend, I don't have a date, and I'm not looking. But newsflash: I'm not defined by my Valentine. (It rhymes for a reason, remember the phrase.) There's NO pressure to reach a certain level of "love" by the fourteenth. In fact, true love arises spontaneously and is a result of patience, respect, and honorable actions. I'm NOT required to manufacture romance, and neither are you. Truth be told, trying to create a "special" experience because it's expected, accepted, and prevalent doesn't usually prove to be the wisest choice in navigation (especially in this case). The gutsy, respectable, and rewarding path requires a different attitude, in which you prepare and guard your heart. What road will you walk? --- There are many people who are looking for love, but are they looking out for you? You're one-of-a-kind. Maybe this year you can take a step back and think about your plan for Valentine's Day. It's one day. Your future is every other day after. Be careful, be wise, and don't worry about making this holiday something straight out of a romantic comedy. I'm an actress, and I've yet to see real life play out like a movie. This year, I'm sharing all my love with family and friends; yes, there's a place in my heart reserved for a special guy, but I haven't reached that season. Those of you who know me know that as a theater teacher and youth group leader I really try to make sure that I am always aware of the things that my kids are watching and listening to. So about a year and a half ago I begin to hear buzz about this kid named Justin Bieber. At first I didn't really pay attention but as the buzz begin to grow I thought well I guess I better check out this Bieber kid and see what he is all about.
What I found was impressive. The boy had great talent and I thought, ok Justin Bieber yeah I guess its ok that my students like ya, your alright! Well it sure didn't stop there, The insanity only grew even more and I caught my self thinking what in the world is going on, this Bieber kid has girls all around the world screaming,crying and fainting..... WHAAAAT! We all know I was a teenage girl during the peak of the Backstreet boys fame and yes while I was and am a HUGE fan and love them dearly there surely was not any crying and fainting from me at concerts... just a lot of dancing, (I mean my friends and I were dancin' fools at BSB concerts.... but I digress, so back to Mr.Bieber)
In my theater classes we often use music in our warm-ups and Justin Bieber has made his way into our warm-up mixes quite a bit this past year, and while I enjoyed many JB tunes and thought/think he is quite the talented young man I still was not sure why little ladies all over the world were crying and fainting and just all around loosing their MINDS.
Then comes this "Never say Never" movie and at first I'm thinking to myself really,really people a documentary this is just waaaaaay to much, but of course my youth group girls talk me into taking them so Saturday afternoon me and the girls head out to lunch and a movie date to take in the "Never say Never Directors cut" movie. The theater goes dark and is filled with the shrill screams and cries of uber excited teen girls. Fast forward to the end, the girls have enjoyed the last few hours of Justin Bieber 20ft big and in 3d and I have really enjoyed learning what this kid is all about past the music,boyish good looks and infamous hair (that is no more ha ha)
I think getting a glimpse of who Justin Bieber the teenage boy is and where he came from was my favorite part. Yes this boy is CRAZY talented but what touched my heart was his compassion and kindness, and of course as a youth group leader it was really nice to have some things to take away and discuss about the role faith plays in his life and to have someone who is soooo much in the forefront of their lives right now as young people be a great example of what compassion looks like in this world today and open up the discussion to how they as teenagers can live out God's call to show compassion in their everyday lives, yes they don't have this monumental platform like Justin Bieber but they are called nonetheless by the Father to do so.
Even further we were able to have a discussion about seeking out the plan that God has for your life. God has a plan for all of our lives, he has created us all to do great things for his glory it may not be to become a teen superstar and have an international impact in the lives of teens, but its a perfect plan for us!
After seeing the movie I felt compelled to intercede on behalf of Mr. Bieber and just ask God to help him to guard his heart and continue surrounding him with people that are going to make a positive impact on his life. Give him the strength to continue to stand firm in what he believes, but also to be with his sweet Momma and to keep her strong and grounded so that she is able to continue to be the guidance and strength that he needs in the crazy entertainment business.
Oh and p.s. still not sure why all of the worlds teen girls can't help but fall apart at the mention of the name Justin Bieber but something tells me I will never know ha ha.
Yesterday was the final performance for Run-of-the-Mill an original show that was written by a wonderful friend of mine. I had the pleasure of stage managing this amazing show, and it was truly an honor!
I was brought onto the project back in October of 2010 and have seen the script and story grow and develop into the amazing and wonderful story that it is now! It has been such an amazing ride, and I have greatly enjoyed working with all of the wonderful actors and crew members.
Once in a while those stories come along that touch your heart and really speak of the human condition and this show was one of those. A story that follows the average American middle class family in their every day life experiencing extraordinary circumstances! This was indeed a wonderful experience I am forever grateful to have been a part of it!
My heart is overwhelmed by the amazing love and respect that was shared between all that worked on this project and I am so very proud of Tyler for writing such a beautiful show! Now a little break!
Last Sunday some sweet friends from church had a little get together after church to watch the Chicago Bears game and just have a great time of fun and fellowship. The game ended up being a bust. While our defense played a great game the offense.... not so much. A lot of us ended up going upstairs and chatting and just enjoying each others company,then we decided to watch "Elf" (I love that movie ha ha.)
I just love when we have these times of fellowship it reminds me just how much I love my church family and how much I appreciate their presence in my life. Being a young single girl here in Chicago on my own its soooo nice to have that support system behind you, and to know that you have people who love you and want the best for you, who take care of you and make you feel loved and cared for!

I just LOVE this song. It reminds me that in those times when I get lost and caught up in things that I need not be my heavenly Father is there just crying out to me,calling me back home to him. It reminds me where my focus needs to be, always on him because if its not I fall and I sink. It also reminds me that his strength is made prefect in my weakness, in those times when I feel like I cant do something I need to step back and remember yes I cant do this but my Father in Heaven you bet your butt he can!

So I just have to start this post by saying this: One of my favorite Christian Bands; Luminate is in the studio right now recording their first full lenght album and I am so excited to hear what God has put in their hearts to share with us! I first heard about Luminate in 2009 and I was instantly taken with their poignant lyrics and worshipful spirits!
OK segue...Band member Dustin Delong (Keys and Vocals) has a blog over at tumblr and every once in a while I shoot on over there to check it out a few weeks ago he had a post titled thoughts/questions this is what it said:

Whoa what would that look like, how amazing would that be? So do it, think about it,ask God to show you what these things are supposed to look like and to shift your thinking. I know I am! This week we hit the ground running in ROTM rehearsals! This week was our first week of rehearsals after the holiday break and with our revised and pretty much final script. It has been such a great joy and fun too, to see this story unfold and come to life! The actors are breathing great life into these pages that Tyler has written.
I am just so giddy with excitement to see this show take shape and grow and become this great and fresh work! We have been blessed with such a great production team and the most amazing actors! I am so thrilled to have the honor of working with all of these lovely people!

I cant even belive that we are 11 days into the new year! This year I was so thankful to be home for the New Year festivites! We had a great New Year in good ol' Michigan. New Years eve was spent with my cousins and my sister and some of her friends. It was a great time and I just reveld just being home with my family!
I was and am so thankful that God allowed me that time to be at home and just soak up being in their presence. I can not tell how much living 5 hours away from home has made me appreiate and love going home and basking in the glow of seeing the family and friends that I love so dearly.
Ok now that I have rambled on I guess I can continue tellig you about the rest of my new year haha. New Years day we were with cousins watching all of the Big Ten bowl games of course our main focus was the Michicagn Miss. State game. All of our games that day turned out to be major lets downs... darn you SEC haha.
After most of the games were over we decided to play some wii to ease our pain haha. My cousins got this new game called Michael Jackson- the experiance. It's AMAZING. Its a dancing game you are basically doing the dances from the videos. We had SOOO much fun!
Now I am back in Chicago and back to work. I am glad to be back and busy but of course I miss being able to wake up to my wonderful family! I will see them soon though, my sister graduates from high school in may so of course I will be back for that!

Since I last blogged the Christmas Holiday has come and gone, and let me just say it was a GREAT one! It had been an official year since I had been home to see my family and friends and this trip was much needed and soo appreciated! I just was able to spend the week relaxing,hanging out with friends and family and of course eating haha.
It was just so nice to have the time to catch up with my 3 closest friends from high school. While I was home we had a great dinner and movie night! It was so much fun to be all back together just blabbing away and laughing together and really enjoying each other. I have missed them so much in the past year and a half here in Chicago and it was just so awesome to spend that time with them!
Of course it was just a blast to hang out and love up on my crazy family haha! There were so many family movie nights,dinners,get togethers,and wii parties with that kooky bunch lol. I am so very blessed to have the amazing family that I have. They are so full of love and support for me and I am so grateful that God has given them to me. Even my kooky cousins with their crazy antics and my crazy baby sister (who is actually quite far from a baby, she is 18) I loved being able to soak up all of that time with my mom and my grandmothers just chatting and relaxing it was perfect!
I thank God that I was able to go home and spend the Christmas holiday with my family. After going a year without seeing them it was so precious to me to have that week to just bask in the glow of family and friends!
Ok so every time I think back and reflect on this moment I get all giddy and excited so please bear with my as I attempt to share with all of you just how awesome God is!
As most of you know I am a theater teacher and work steadily in the Chicago theater scene. It has been a major blessing for me to be able to teach at a Christian school and I love every single second of it, but working in theater around the city I am usually the only Christ follower in a cast and production team full of people. It is just not the norm to have believers in the main stream theater circle most of the believers that I know that are working in the arts work for Christian companies.
So when a good friend of mine asked me to come on board his project and stage manage for him I was of course more than happy to help a friend and have another opportunity to shine Gods light and love into and onto a cast and prod. team that I was sure didn't and would not know him.
As all of the actors and production team were getting to know each other with the first week of rehearsals there came the ever so common find me on facebook. haha. so slowly I had friend requests trickling in on my facebook page. One of those requests came from the actress playing the mother in the show. I accepted and the next day I had a cute little message from her in reference to my religious views -"I love Jesus" she said "you love Jesus,Me too! :) " I was so excited that there was another believer here to go on this ride with me, another person here to share the love and light of Jesus!
The next day at our rehearsal we were chatting about the Christmas programs at our churches and our producer walked over and said "Are you guys believers?" We were both like yea and then found out that he is as well. My head was spinning, like I said this is not the norm. I was happy to have one more believer but to have three of us I was already in awe, but God was not done yet another one of our actors overheard Les our producer asking us what churches we went to and walked over and burst out and said are you guys Christian? Both she and I answered yes (He and Les go to the same Church).
There are 4 Christ followers working on this production! None of us could deny the awesome-ness of this and fact that again it is not normal to have even one believer in a cast or on a production team let alone 4. None of us could deny that God is doing something great and moving in a mighty way and that this small army of believers is no doubt going to be used for HIS GLORY! This is no accident God knew exactly what he was doing when each of us signed on to take part in this project!
I am still in awe and I am humbled and excited to see where he will be taking us over the next 2 1/2 months. God is doing something big and the fact that he is using me to do it just knocks my socks off! I am so thankful for this opportunity that he has given us to be his walking talking billboards! Please Pray for us as we take on what ever God puts before us!
This year my thanksgiving plans were not the usual. I did not go home to Michigan this year due to finances, so I spent my turkey day here in Chicago with great friends. I woke up somewhat early and headed downtown to take in the Thanksgiving parade! That was great fun! After the parade I headed up north to spend the day with some great family friends!
Even though I was not able to go home and spend the time with my family I still had a great day. It was so nice to be with friends and fellowship and share. This thanksgiving holiday I had/have so many things to be thankful for.
My Saviour! God has blessed me and my life well beyond what I deserve! I may not always get to do the things that I want to do and its rough financially but I still have a roof over my head,food in my fridge,clothes on my back and shoes on my feet. warm coats and hats to see me through these winter months. God has given me everything that I need to survive and he has also given me the most precious gift his son! Because of his son my life is secured! God is Good!
My amazing family! They are so supportive and wonderful my momma is always there to talk me down and give me prospective when I am rambling on about things that frustrate me and annoy me,my grandmothers! they are my most amazing examples of what a good christian woman,mother and wife looks like and they are always there to encourage me! My sister she is my sunshine I love her so much and I am so very proud of her and the young lady she is becoming! LOVE all of you!
My amazing Church family!! In this past year my church family and small group ladies and young adults group have been a major blessing! praying with me teaching me challenging me and encouraging me to be the person that God has called me to be! I love all of them so much! Because of them I have gone from having no one here in the city to hangout with and feeling so lonely in this great city full of people to having so many wonderful and amazing friends to fellowship with and call on!
This thanksgiving and this Holiday season I have so many wonderful people and things to be thankful for. I thank God for his amazing blessings and his grace and for giving me so much to thank him for! I hope all of your thanksgivings were wonderful and that you all took time to allow your heart to be grateful for what God has done in your lives this past year!
Sheesh! Talk about lack of post updates haha.It has been an overwhelming,crazy,busy past couple of months. Of course work as usual and I have started working on a new show so that takes up a lot of time, but one of the most major things that has been going on here is the accidental death of the daughter of a great friend and mentor at church. Her Daughter was standing outside her car talking to a friend when it and her were sideswiped by a vehicle. The man who hit both her and her friend ran and not only that was drunk. So needless to say it has been a rough couple of months.
The man later turned himself in and is on trial. We as a church family have been really trying to support the family in prayer,cooking and offering services like that but we are also showing our support by attending the court dates. I was not able to attend the first one but I hope to attend the second one coming up in mid December.
We are just trying to stay prayerful for the family and show our support any way we know how! I urge all of you to keep the Rodriguez-Gamez, Cardenas family in prayer too! Thanks!
Ok so I have a lot to say today which means that this post if going to just be all over the place haha. You have been forewarned, so I will continue. I love my job, I am a youth theater arts teacher here in Chicago and I really do love every second of it. I adore working with all of the fantastic students that I have and watching them grow and explore their creativity. It is my goal to start a Christian based youth performing arts company that focuses of many creative outlets such as theater,dance,vocal and instrumental music,creative writing and spoken word just to name a few with Christ and christian values at the center of it all, promoting love and respect for your self and each other while exploring as many creative avenues as you can!
With that being said in my attempt to keep this post flowing in a some what fluid manner there is a young lady who is an Actress/dancer/singer who made a name for herself early starring as a dancer in numerous missy elliot videos and went on to work with artists like Eminem and outkast in videos as well as live events. She later went on to work on the super fun films cheaper by the dozen 1 and 2, and has more recently gained popularity starring in those fun and spunky Disney channel originals camp rock 1 and 2 and as the voice of Isabella in the totally infectious Phineas and Ferb (which I totally love watching btw). By now your probably thinking so how exactly is this flowing fluidly, well here it is. Of course my students absolutely love her, and I try to make it a point to check out all of the stuff that they are talking about and all of the things that they are interested in so that I can 1. engage in conversation with them about things that they care about and 2. I can be aware of things that are appropriate and things that are not. so of course I had to watch that catchy camp rock 2 and one day I just decided to totally google some of the young stars and Alyson was one of them.
My google results bought up Alyson's website and blog I decided to take a little looksey. What I found was amazing and refreshing. This young lady is so intelligent and articulate and has so much integrity,class and heart! I was just blown away! As I read further into the post and read some earlier entries she had written I just wanted to cry. This girl has such a beautiful and gentle spirit, she is full of love and respect for herself and others! One post that she had written really spoke to me.She was talking to young girls about respecting their bodies, purity,and modesty. I just was sobbing reading it because it was so honest and heartfelt and it touched my heart to know that this young girl was putting herself out there and trying to let other young ladies know that love is patient and respectful and you don't need to engage in those acts to show your love to a boyfriend! Working with alot of young girls I am always trying to speak to them in love about respecting their bodies, making good choices when it comes to boys and relationships, and speaking to them about remaining pure without over stepping my boundaries.
I just want to share a little snippet of the post with you just so that you can get a glimpse her sweet and loving spirit:

Ahhhh I love it! I just get all teary every time I read this because it's something that I can integrate into conversations when the opportunity arises and my young ladies will really stop to listen because its not just coming from me now haha its also coming from someone that they "look up" to and aspire to be like. So thank you Alyson Stoner. You are a beautiful young woman with a beautiful spirit, and I am so glad that God is using you to be a bright light in a dark world!!! Those of you that know me well know that I dont really listet ito alot of radio. It makes me angry because they just play the same things over and over again and the majority of it it just absolute garbbage to me.A lot of it is just this factory made insta hit no heart stuff. I have those few songs that I really like, those few guilty pleasures if you will haha but for the most part I really do not enjoy whats on the radio these days.
With that being said I have always enjoyed the great talent singer JoJo has, and recently I came across a free download for her new mixtape that she recently recorded.Let me just say it is amazing and I just can not stop listening haha.
This mixtape showcases her undeniable talent of course but it also shows just how much she has grown as a woman,an individual and as an artist. It is so great to listen to this mixtape and hear her as an idividual as a young woman to hear her her thoughts,her heart!

It's that time of year again, that special time that causes even the best of friends to go up against each other... Football season!! Let me tell you I could not be more excited that my wonderful boys in Maize and Blue the mighty Michigan Wolverines are back on the football field!!!
I am just overcome with joy haha. May I just say that even though we are just about 2 1/2 weeks into the season we are already lighting up the field. As always we have some fantastic talent on this football team. The name that you will be hearing the most this season though is probably that of our QB Denard Robinson. I can't even put into words just how amazing this young man is on the field but I can show you :)
It is going to be one great season to watch!!! What teams will you be following this season? Both college and NFL.
Well as usual its been a busy and crazy couple of weeks! The show is over now it went pretty well there were some bumps in the road but we got through them and moved on.
Now Its back to school, we have been back for two weeks but I have only been back for about a week. We have a lot of new students and of course we have returning students!I am praying for a great year full of fun and great kids! I am grateful for this long weekend though haha.
For this Labor Day Holiday I am planning on keeping it pretty low key. I am planning on going to a friends house for a bit and the meeting some other friends from church at the lake front to bbq and just hang out and enjoy the last bits of summer. Before you know it it will be October and we will be well into fall.
After summer fall is my favorite season I love the crisp temps where you can wear a sweatshirt or a light jacket and a cute scarf, if only winter didn't have to be right on its heels lol. Of course my favorite thing about fall is the fact that football season has arrived! GO BLUE!!! The Michigan Wolverines had their first game this past Saturday and we whooped some uconn booty! I am hoping that this season is a good one for my wolverines. The last two seasons have been ick! HAIL TO THE VICTORS!!! HAHA.

Well we have reached the end of the rehearsal road and are rolling full steam ahead to the performance road!!!! This weekend marks the beginning of the end of 2 long months of hard work! If you are in the Chicago area and would love to come see a great show please come support 4 his glory performing arts companies run of "The Wiz" Today Friday at 7pm and Saturday at 2pm and 7pm. The show will take place at Hamilton Park Auditorium on 72nd and Parnell. Tickets are $25.00. Its a great show and its tons of fun, it has a great urban twist even more so than the original!
So here goes a busy weekend!! Hope you all have a great weekend yourselves. I am hoping to get out to the Chicago air and water show too this weekend. It was great fun yesterday to have the US Navy's blue angles fly right over my head yesterday while walking around the city!!
It has been quite the full week this week. I have had work and rehearsals for "The Wiz" which opens in one week!!! ahhhhh! haha. So that means next week for me is pretty much non existent if its not work or the show lol. Although I am going to find a little time to get out and enjoy the air and water show next weekend. I always love to go to the Air and Water show it's such great fun and it is a great way to go out and support our armed forces, they are all represented there flying and they always have a great USO show!
Since next weekend will be taken over by the show I am glad to have a great friend from home visiting this weekend. Our families went to the same church back in Michigan until her mom who is a pastor got assigned to a different church a bit further away. Her brother and I are the ones who actually grew up together she is great friends with my little sister. She is here in Chicago visiting colleges since she will be a senior this coming school year. It is always so great when people from back home from for a visit. I love to get a little Michigan love haha.
I am also excited about my churches burger wars cook-off on Sunday. 10 "burger masters" will be whipping up their best burgers for us to judge. It should be great fun and a good time of fellowship!
